Introduction

ENHYPEN now operate as a six-member group: Jungwon, Jay, Jake, Sunghoon, Sunoo and Ni-Ki. They debuted with seven members in November 2020, but BELIFT LAB announced on 10 March 2026 that Heeseung would leave to pursue a distinct musical direction while remaining with the company as a solo artist. The agency’s current profile formally presents ENHYPEN as a six-member act.[weverse.io]weverse.ioWeverse[NOTICE] ENHYPEN's Future ActivitiesHEESEUNG will be parting ways with ENHYPEN, and ENHYPEN will continue official activities henc…

The change matters because Heeseung had been one of the group’s most prominent vocal and performance anchors. His departure did not simply remove one face from photographs; it required ENHYPEN to redistribute lines, formations, vocal responsibility and the less visible work of stabilising live performances. Yet it would be misleading to treat the remaining members as replacements filling six rigid job descriptions. Apart from Jungwon’s confirmed leadership, ENHYPEN have generally been presented as a flexible, all-round performance team rather than a group built around an extensive list of official positions.[Teen Vogue]teenvogue.comTeen Vogue Meet ENHYPEN, the K-Pop Rookies That Already Have a Global FandomJungwon was chosen to be ENHYPEN's leader after a lengthy selection process that included personality tests and member voting…. The current six-member line-up

The most useful way to understand ENHYPEN’s present structure is to distinguish official responsibility from recognisable strength. Jungwon is the leader; labels such as “main dancer”, “lead vocalist” or “visual” are more often fan shorthand based on recurring performance patterns than a complete official hierarchy. That distinction has become especially important since March 2026, because the group’s work now depends on overlapping skills rather than a single member inheriting everything Heeseung previously contributed.

  • Jungwon — leader and performance stabiliser. Jungwon was selected as leader before debut through a process that reportedly involved personality assessment, interviews and member input. His role is not merely ceremonial: he has frequently described leadership as balancing the needs of the members with the direction of the team. His clear vocal colour, controlled movement and calm public manner also make him useful in transitions, opening remarks and high-pressure situations. Jake has described both himself and Jungwon as members who remain level-headed when circumstances become difficult.[teenvogue.com]teenvogue.comTeen Vogue ENHYPEN Members Talk "I-Land" Experience and Upcoming DebutIn order for a team to go the right direction, both the role of the leader and the rest of the members are equally important…. • Jay — expressive performer and increasingly visible creative voice. Jay’s stage identity is built around strong attack, emotional directness and a willingness to lean into rock-influenced material. He has also become one of the members most publicly associated with instruments, musical curiosity and participation in the group’s creative process. Earlier interviews established his unusually intense interest in subjects he cares about, while the members have described him as emotionally candid and willing to discuss concerns in depth. That combination gives him an informal role as both a forceful performer and a member able to articulate what the group is trying to express.[Weverse Magazine]magazine.weverse.ioMagazine JAKE: “I don’t really like to lose, but it’s okay when it’s ENGENE”Magazine JAKE: “I don’t really like to lose, but it’s okay when it’s ENGENE”
  • Jake — international communicator and adaptable all-rounder. Raised in Australia, Jake is naturally prominent in English-language interviews and overseas promotions, but reducing him to “the English-speaking member” misses his broader value. His vocal delivery often suits warm, intimate or conversational passages, while his performance style has grown more assured across ENHYPEN’s tours. He has said that his responsibility is to shape his expression around whatever role a particular song gives him, which is a useful description of ENHYPEN’s position-light structure. Within the team, he has also presented himself as an attentive listener who adjusts his approach to each member’s personality.[weverse.io]magazine.weverse.ioMagazine JAKE: “I don’t really like to lose, but it’s okay when it’s ENGENE”Magazine JAKE: “I don’t really like to lose, but it’s okay when it’s ENGENE”
  • Sunghoon — precision, visual control and a bridge to sport. Sunghoon spent roughly a decade training as a competitive figure skater before becoming an idol. That background remains visible in his balance, clean body lines and disciplined approach to repetition. His public identity also extends beyond the normal music cycle: in 2026 he carried the Winter Olympic torch in Italy, reconnecting his idol career with the sporting ambition he had pursued before I-LAND. He has spoken about bringing an athlete’s perfectionism into ENHYPEN while finding greater emotional support in team-based work.[People.com]people.comIn the interview, Sunghoon discusses his emotional Olympic experience, including supporting Team Korea and reminiscing about his skating…
  • Sunoo — tonal contrast and concept versatility. Sunoo is especially valuable because he can alter the emotional temperature of a performance. His bright, responsive public persona suits lighter songs and fan-facing content, but he is equally capable of adopting restrained, unsettling or dramatic expressions for ENHYPEN’s darker material. His role is therefore not simply to provide “brightness”; it is to create contrast. Earlier interviews also show how actively he sought performance feedback, including detailed movement advice from Ni-Ki, illustrating how ENHYPEN’s individual strengths are developed collaboratively rather than in isolation.[Weverse Magazine]magazine.weverse.ioMagazine ENHYPEN Other CutsMagazine ENHYPEN Other Cuts
  • Ni-Ki — dance reference point and youngest member. Ni-Ki entered the group with the clearest specialist reputation. He began learning dance in childhood, including jazz and ballet, taught choreography at his family’s studio and was already helping other contestants with movement during I-LAND. The members continue to identify dance as the field in which he has exceptional authority; Jake has said that Ni-Ki has that part of the group’s work “covered”. His function is larger than executing difficult sections: he helps define texture, timing, angles and the physical intensity associated with ENHYPEN’s performance identity.[teenvogue.com]teenvogue.comTeen Vogue ENHYPEN Members Talk "I-Land" Experience and Upcoming DebutIn order for a team to go the right direction, both the role of the leader and the rest of the members are equally important…. TV: Jak…

Their international backgrounds remain part of the group’s public architecture. Jay was born in the United States, Jake grew up in Australia and Ni-Ki is Japanese, while Jungwon, Sunghoon and Sunoo are Korean. This mixture supports global interviews and promotions, but its greater significance is cultural adaptability: the members have spent their careers moving among Korean, Japanese, English-speaking and wider international audiences.[Grammy]grammy.comOpen source on grammy.com.

Performance strengths and public roles

ENHYPEN’s roles become clearer when viewed as a performance system rather than a list of titles. In a typical song, responsibility shifts among four overlapping layers: vocal colour, choreographic focus, emotional expression and public communication. Different members can dominate different layers without being permanently assigned to them.

Jungwon and Ni-Ki form a central performance axis. Ni-Ki often supplies scale, rhythmic detail and commanding movement, while Jungwon contributes compact control and consistency. Their appearance together in Studio Choom’s Mix & Max series made that contrast particularly visible: rather than dancing identically, they used different physical qualities to create a coherent pair. Jungwon’s leadership and Ni-Ki’s dance authority therefore operate in parallel—one governs the team socially and organisationally, while the other frequently serves as a technical reference in choreography.[Weverse Magazine]magazine.weverse.ioOpen source on weverse.io.

Jay, Jake, Sunghoon and Sunoo give the group its internal contrast. Jay tends to intensify a passage; Jake can soften or humanise it; Sunghoon brings visual exactness; Sunoo can sharply change its mood. Those descriptions are not fixed limits. ENHYPEN’s appeal depends on members moving against type: Sunoo becoming severe, Sunghoon becoming playful, Jake taking a harder performance role or Jay showing vulnerability. The result is a group in which a member’s familiar public image creates expectations that the performance can either satisfy or overturn.

Public duties are similarly distributed. Jungwon remains the formal spokesperson because of his leadership, while Jake and Jay are frequently prominent in English-language settings. Sunghoon’s sporting history gives him access to public events beyond music, most notably the 2026 Olympic torch relay. Ni-Ki has particular importance in Japan and in dance-centred coverage, while Sunoo’s expressiveness and ease in fan communication strengthen the group’s variety and audience-facing content. These are recurring patterns rather than exclusive jurisdictions; all six participate in interviews, fan platforms and global promotions.[Weverse Magazine]magazine.weverse.ioMagazine JAKE: “I don’t really like to lose, but it’s okay when it’s ENGENE”Magazine JAKE: “I don’t really like to lose, but it’s okay when it’s ENGENE”

The members’ collaborative habits also complicate the idea that roles are imposed solely by management. Sunoo has recalled Ni-Ki giving detailed advice about hand and foot movements. Jake has described changing how he listens and responds according to each member’s temperament. Ni-Ki, meanwhile, has repeatedly framed concert quality as a collective achievement rather than an individual showcase. These accounts suggest that ENHYPEN’s internal roles are relational: one member’s expertise becomes useful because the others accept, translate and build upon it.[Weverse Magazine]magazine.weverse.ioMagazine JAKE: “I don’t really like to lose, but it’s okay when it’s ENGENE”Magazine JAKE: “I don’t really like to lose, but it’s okay when it’s ENGENE”

How the 2026 change reshaped the group

BELIFT LAB said Heeseung’s departure followed discussions about the future direction of both the artist and the team, and that his individual musical vision had become distinct enough for the parties to pursue separate paths. He remained under the label to prepare solo work, while ENHYPEN continued with the six members named in the agency’s notice.[Weverse]weverse.ioWeverse[NOTICE] ENHYPEN's Future ActivitiesHEESEUNG will be parting ways with ENHYPEN, and ENHYPEN will continue official activities henc…

From a performance perspective, the difficult part is that Heeseung’s former contribution cannot be reduced to one vacant “position”. He was widely regarded as a dependable singer and all-round performer, meaning his absence affects several systems simultaneously:

  • existing songs require vocal lines and harmonies to be reassigned;
  • seven-person formations must be converted into six-person geometry;
  • transitions and centre placements have to be rebalanced;
  • members must cover more material while preserving breath control during demanding choreography;
  • the group must establish a new visual and vocal equilibrium without making every performance feel like a reconstruction of the seven-member version.

Some early fan discussion after the change focused heavily on live vocals and on which member received particular lines. Such reactions show how closely audiences had associated certain phrases, tones and climactic moments with Heeseung. They should not, however, be treated as objective proof that one remaining member has formally “replaced” him. Line distribution can vary by song, arrangement and concert, and the strongest available official material confirms the six-member continuation without announcing a new main vocalist or a revised set of fixed positions.[Weverse]weverse.ioWeverse[NOTICE] ENHYPEN's Future ActivitiesHEESEUNG will be parting ways with ENHYPEN, and ENHYPEN will continue official activities henc…

The clearest structural consequence is therefore shared expansion. Jungwon carries greater symbolic pressure as the leader of the reconfigured team. Jay, Jake, Sunghoon and Sunoo have more space—and more responsibility—to establish distinctive vocal moments. Ni-Ki’s dance leadership becomes even more important when familiar formations are redesigned. All six must also help communicate continuity to an audience that experienced ENHYPEN’s first five years as a seven-member story.

The departure additionally changed the meaning of seniority. Heeseung had been the oldest member, so Jay, born in 2002, became the eldest of the active line-up, while Ni-Ki remained the youngest. This does not transfer formal leadership from Jungwon, but it alters the group’s interpersonal balance: age-based care, public expectations and backstage responsibility no longer follow precisely the pattern established at debut. The continued leadership of Jungwon reinforces the fact that ENHYPEN’s formal authority was never based simply on age.[Teen Vogue]teenvogue.comTeen Vogue Meet ENHYPEN, the K-Pop Rookies That Already Have a Global FandomJungwon was chosen to be ENHYPEN's leader after a lengthy selection process that included personality tests and member voting…. As a k…

The six-member era is still too new for every long-term role to be settled. What is already clear is that ENHYPEN have not responded by publishing a rigid replacement chart. Their established model—one confirmed leader surrounded by adaptable performers with recognisable but overlapping strengths—is now being tested more intensely. The defining question is not which member becomes “the new Heeseung”, but how Jungwon, Jay, Jake, Sunghoon, Sunoo and Ni-Ki turn a set of redistributed duties into a performance identity that feels complete on its own.
